EDITO. The Moral Authority of Western Bourgeoisies Lies Beneath the Rubble of Gaza

For over a year and a half, Gaza has been subjected to systematic destruction, planned and carried out by Israel with the support—often ideological, always material—of the United States, major European powers, and their allies.Every day, the unbearable images sent by Palestinians make us witnesses to the ongoing horror.

For months, people across the world, from America to Asia and throughout Europe, particularly young people, have been mobilising to force their governments to recognise the Palestinian state and demand a ceasefire. After the shock of the October 7 attacks, international public opinion has long since shifted in favour of peace. Judgments rendered by the International Criminal Court and the characterisation of "genocide" echo this.

But public opinion, calls for a ceasefire, human rights, or international conventions—the far-right Israeli government cares about them as much as it does about the latest Palestinian child killed by its bombs. The objective of the ultra-nationalists who compose it has long been clear: the annihilation of the Palestinian people and the expansion of Israeli territory well beyond its current settlements. Thus, even as his regime is more isolated than ever globally, Netanyahu has just launched what he calls his "final assault" on Gaza. Nothing is spared: hospitals, schools, and so-called "safe zones" are being systematically wiped off the map.

For over a year and a half, Western chancelleries knowingly continued to supply weapons, ignoring popular mobilizations in their own countries, but the situation is starting to shift.Yesterday, the AFP announced that the European Union was planning to review its association agreement with Israel, that London intended to suspend its trade negotiations with Israel and sanction Israeli settlers for violence in the West Bank, and that Sweden was advocating for European sanctions against members of the Israeli government.

For Palestinians, it's certainly a case of better late than never. A definitive ceasefire is an absolute priority, just as any demand for justice following the massacre is welcome. Mobilizations and demonstrations are planned in the coming days worldwide to support peace and demand an immediate ceasefire, a halt to arms deliveries, and an end to impunity for those responsible for this genocide. We will be part of them, particularly this Sunday, May 25th, in the Place de la République in Paris and in many other cities across France

However, the peoples of the world will not forget that it took over a year and a half, tens of thousands of Palestinians massacred in an open-air concentration camp, and irrefutable proof of this slaughter for the ruling bourgeoisies to finally concede to a few weak condemnations! Earlier in history, and elsewhere in the world, many other peoples have borne or are still bearing the brunt of the barbarity of capitalist powers.

Around the world, we are witnessing the decay of the bourgeois order, its inability to claim itself as the guarantor of any civilization, despite its narrative of a past grandeur to be reconquered.By demonstrating for an end to the genocide of the Palestinian people, let's help this idea, which has already taken root, to blossom: the salvation of humanity lies with the people, their resistance, their solidarity, their resilience, and their collective intelligence.

Now, it's about the survival of millions of humans facing imperialist wars, climate change, labor exploitation, and the plundering of resources. The bourgeoisie has played with our lives enough. It's time to seize power from them and take the future into our own hands.
